Encounters with Mary is a study and prayer group devoted to deepening our understanding and appreciation of the Mother of God through the twenty mysteries of the rosary. The group discovers Mary through scholarly writings, prayer and personal reflections. Each Encounter begins with a thoughtful praying of the rosary followed by a discussion of the mystery. Medieval and Renaissance masterpieces provide a backdrop for meditation and reflection. Historically, these works were the primary method of religious instruction for the illiterate peasants and townsfolk who viewed them within church altarpieces and windows. The subtleties and symbolism of these pieces allow us to experience the mysteries in a powerful way and with deeper understanding. The sessions conclude with Benediction. All parishioners, with a special invitation to the youth, are encouraged to attend. Regular attendance is not required---join us in study and prayer as often as you are able.
For more information about Encounters with Mary, please contact Terre Horlocker at 288-9550.

Members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul are men and women who strive to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to individuals in need. All of us are blessed with an awareness that our blessings (time, talent and treasure) are to be shared with our brothers and sisters in need. We are part of an international society of friends united by a spirit of poverty, humility and sharing which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings and adherence to a basic Rule. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul offers tangible assistance to those in need. This aid may take the form of intervention, consultation, or often through direct dollar or in-kind service. An essential precept of the Society's work is to provide help while conscientiously maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those who are served. The Society recognizes that it must assume, also, a role of advocacy for those who are defenseless or voiceless.

At Pax Christi we have the opportunity to serve those who are hungry in many ways. One option is through Channel One. The volunteer recruiter at Channel One calls us when they have needs. One example is preparing garden plots to be used by low-income residents to grow their own food, and begin to support themselves. Another example is delivering to Channel One extra harvest from Pax parishioners out of their own gardens that they have brought to church to share with those who don't have access to a garden. You can choose to be involved weekly, monthly or when specific opportunities arise. Working with Channel One is a great opportunity for individuals, families, or groups. We determined some sort of "extended parish family" be provided to the family when a spouse is deployed for extended periods. We remain connected to the families, identifying their needs, building a network of Pax Christi veterans and families to lend a hand, listen to a story, offer our care and pray for them often.
