Community Food Response is a volunteer led nonprofit organization to meet the growing needs of families to have a supplemental source of food. This program focuses on rescuing food that would normally be discarded from hospitals, hotels, restaurants, schools, and grocery stores, and then passing it on to individuals and families in need.
We collect and distribute food on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week.
CFR is now operating at our new location, which is 120 1st Street NE (on the corner of Civic Center Drive and 1st Street NE). We moved to this new building in December 2021. With Covid still a concern, we now have clients drive up to the door and we bring bags with meals right to their car. This significantly lowers exposure risks for all.
We’d like to invite individuals who feel comfortable and are healthy to volunteer on their own. Masks are optional for volunteers at this time, however if Covid surges again, we’ll make masks mandatory for all volunteers in the building once again. There are usually only 4 to 6 volunteers in the building at one time during operating hours.

Here are our volunteer needs:
1. Drivers – 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. Two drivers are needed to collect food and deliver it to Community Food Response site. This does require use of your own vehicle (truck, SUV or van). *This is our greatest need!*
2. Sorters – We have two shifts for this job. First shift is from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and the second shift is from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. We need two volunteers in each of these time slots to sort donated food into meal categories.
3. Distributors – 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Four volunteers are needed to pack meals into bags and help distribute these to clients when they drive up.
