Would you like to be part of a ministry that provides valuable support to families who have just experienced the loss of a loved one?
When a loved one dies and the family makes funeral arrangements, they are invited to have a luncheon or reception at Pax Christi. This time for fellowship is an important part of the grieving process.
Funeral luncheon volunteers help serve the luncheon allowing the family to share a meal while visiting with guests and remembering their loved one.
When we learn of a funeral at Pax, we begin contacting our volunteers to find people who are available to help.
If you are on the volunteer list, you will receive an email (or phone call if you prefer) asking if you are available.
You are under no obligation to help - you agree to work when you can.
When you sign up for this ministry, you provide information about days and times you might be available. Some of our workers are gone during parts of the year or have other obligations on certain days of the week.
To assist families, we typically have two teams of workers: a set-up crew and a clean-up crew, with overlap time to serve the catered meal.
The time commitment is generally about two hours, but can vary depending on the time or size of the funeral.
Not only do we provide a valuable service with this ministry, we also form solid friendships with other volunteers as we work.
